The REACH Regulation is a European regulation that aims to improve the protection of human health and the environment from the risks posed by chemicals. It applies to all industrial chemicals and is based on the precautionary principle. Manufacturers, importers and downstream users must ensure that the substances used have no adverse effects on humans or the environment.

General information: The REACH Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006 of the European Parliament and of the Council concerning the Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals entered into force on June 1, 2007. In order to comply with the REACH Regulation, companies must identify and manage the risks of the substances they manufacture or market in the EU. Non-compliance can result in fines or even imprisonment.

 

The RoHS Directive
Important information at a glance

The RoHS Directive (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) controls and restricts the use of hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment. Its aim is to reduce the release of these substances into the environment as pollutants and at the same time to reduce human exposure during the manufacturing and recycling processes.
 
Companies that import such devices or sell them within the EU must comply with the RoHS Directive. This includes the use of unleaded soldering, the prohibition of environmentally harmful flame retardants in cable insulation and the promotion of equivalent replacement products.
